Assessments

At Blackhawk Family Development Center we believe that children can benefit from a comprehensive and collaborative assessment. The assessment includes an evaluation of cognitive functioning, social and emotional functioning as well as overall personality style.

The cognitive portion of our assessment will identify how your child’s mind works and what learning styles or strategies will help them most optimally retain information. A comprehensive assessment can establish a diagnosis or learning disorder, which may help your child receive additional support in the academic arena. Our assessments may also determine giftedness. Gifted children require a higher level of cognitive stimulation in order to maintain optimal performance and engagement. The earlier we can identify a child’s strengths the sooner we can help maximize their potential.

Additionally, our comprehensive assessments give us information about a child’s social and emotional functioning so that we can better understand how the child views themselves and why they react to and behave in situations the way they do. Often a low sense of self esteem can be masked by disruptive or defiant behaviors.

When your child’s assessment is complete you will have a detailed written report which documents your child’s overall functioning with emphasis on their natural strengths. The results of the assessment will also be presented to your child in a way that is easily understandable and helpful to them.
